Several still photographers today work with video, but at Theilgaard Academy we experience in our education and photography courses that many are also looking back to photography. If you work in a team with limited influence on a daily basis, you may miss doing projects where you have full creative control. Here, photography is generally more flexible and accessible medium than a feature film.
It could also be that you see photography and portrait photography as an extension of your video production business, and that you're tired of saying, “Uh, I don't really know,” every time your clients ask if you do stills too. Or maybe you're just curious about photography and see it as an exciting medium to explore and challenge.
Our degree in photography is designed to give you the skills and creativity you need. Being technically proficient and being able to operate advanced cameras and other equipment does not necessarily make you a visually gifted storyteller.
Film has its origin in photography from the beginning, and being adept at framing and combining strong still images is an invaluable skill to have — even if you primarily make a living making pictures that move.
In almost all of our courses and photography programmes, we currently have one or more trainees who have their professional background in the film, video and television industry. We are always very, very happy to have you, because you always come with a lot of exciting experience that enriches the teaching.
So whether you work in video production, branding and corporate film, are in the television industry, are a photographer, 1st AC, cinematographer, or whatever your role is: If you want an education in photography or want to explore photography as a medium, we have the teaching for you.
We offer a range of both short courses in photography and long-term photography courses. In addition, we have tailor-made courses for companies and institutions as well as mentoring courses, where you get personal sparring according to your wishes with Helga and Michael.

I’m a visual artist and photographer, and over the past 20 years I’ve created a number of significant nationwide exhibitions and book publications — most recently the exhibitions I’m Here Now and The Rootless – We Who Remain.
I also work with communicating and teaching art and photography through workshops and talks, and I’ve helped hundreds of professional, independent and emerging photographers define their photographic language and make their images truly stand out.
I trained under Rigmor Mydtskov, Photographer to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark, as well as at Fatamorgana – The Danish School of Art Photography, and the European Film College.

I’m a photographer and image retoucher, and an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop. I trained as a photojournalist and have worked as a photographer for more than 20 years for magazines, publishers and companies.
Alongside this, I have specialised in post-production and portrait retouching, as well as finishing fine art prints for museums and exhibitions. I also work on my own artistic projects.
Over the years, I’ve taught at institutions including Fatamorgana – The Danish School of Art Photography, and the Photography Programme under KTS/Next.
