Theilgaard Academy is your stepping stone towards a possible career as a part-time or full-time photographer. Our courses and workshops provide you with all the tools and knowledge you need.
Development of photographic technique and narrative
On this training you will learn to master photography as a means of communication. You will develop your skills in portrait photography, including lighting, composition, posing and staging. Through a series of workshops, your ability to create powerful visual narratives is strengthened, captivating and engaging the viewer.
Person Instruction and Portrait Psychology
Helga Theilgaard's revolutionary techniques give you the tools to create intense and present portraits. You will learn to understand and apply the psychology of portraiture so that your images accurately convey the story you want.
Imaging and Aesthetic Awareness
A professional image processor will introduce you to effective techniques that ensure high quality in your images. At the same time, you develop a deeper understanding of aesthetics and visual means, which makes your portraits even more captivating.
Personal and professional development through practice
The programme combines theory and practical tasks, where you develop both professionally and personally through feedback and intensive training. This gives you a solid foundation to work professionally with photography.
At our photographer training, you will learn not only to develop your photographic voice, but also to build a solid business foundation that can ensure you a successful career in photography.
Through workshops and a small exclusive team, you will have the opportunity to network with other photographers and find inspiration for your work.
For those of you who may not be prepared to embark on a decidedly one-year photography education, we have plenty of short courses in portrait photography, lighting and study techniques with flash lamps, workshops in Photoshop and much more.
In addition, we offer mentoring where we organize a completely personal course, typically of half to a full year, where we meet monthly physically or over the screen. It is obvious for those who have a lot of basic knowledge about photography in place, but lack sparring and maybe being held to the fire, or because you have a concrete project you are trying to achieve.

I’m a visual artist and photographer, and over the past 20 years I’ve created a number of significant nationwide exhibitions and book publications — most recently the exhibitions I’m Here Now and The Rootless – We Who Remain.
I also work with communicating and teaching art and photography through workshops and talks, and I’ve helped hundreds of professional, independent and emerging photographers define their photographic language and make their images truly stand out.
I trained under Rigmor Mydtskov, Photographer to Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark, as well as at Fatamorgana – The Danish School of Art Photography, and the European Film College.

I’m a photographer and image retoucher, and an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop. I trained as a photojournalist and have worked as a photographer for more than 20 years for magazines, publishers and companies.
Alongside this, I have specialised in post-production and portrait retouching, as well as finishing fine art prints for museums and exhibitions. I also work on my own artistic projects.
Over the years, I’ve taught at institutions including Fatamorgana – The Danish School of Art Photography, and the Photography Programme under KTS/Next.
